At
its April 23 meeting, the CLLA Board of Governors approved the
acquisition of the National Association of Commercial
Collection Agencies (NACCA) and revisions to the by-laws of
the Commercial Collection Agency Association (CCAA) calling
for the creation of affiliate memberships in the CCAA.
NACCA
was a triadic organization and had associate members who were
law firms and law list publishing companies.
Existing NACCA Associate Members have been
“grandfathered” as Affiliate Members of CCAA.
There
are now two new categories of CCAA Affiliate Members:
Affiliate
Member is defined as a law firm or law list publishing
company. An
affiliate member may have as many representatives as it
desires. One of
the affiliate member’s representatives needs to serve as the
voting member for the affiliate member.
Representatives from affiliate members must also be
members of the CLLA.
Applications
are now open for those desiring to join as affiliate members.

Affiliate
Mentored Member is
defined as a commercial collection agency who has been in
business two or more years.
The purpose of affiliate mentored membership is to
provide an agency that does not now meet the time in business
requirements for CLLA certification but desires to become
certified to join the CCAA.
The agency is required to participate in a mentoring
program. An agency participating in this mentoring program may
elect to apply for certification after one year serving as an
affiliate mentored member.
In effect, if the agency elects, it can reduce its time
in business requirement from four to three years.
